AEGEE-Palermo was born on 1998, but officially on 1999, thank to the work and engagement of the first members that built it. Desire and conviction to be an European citizen without borders pushed a group of students of the University of Palermo to sign in the convention of adhesion with AEGEE-Europe, becoming the nth ANTENNA of the huge AEGEE network.
Since that moment AEGEE-Palermo haven’t ever stopped his develop and, although it is an association little known in Palermo and little numerous, it has ever been able to speak well about itself in Europe and now it’s one of the most requested places between all Summer Universities of every year. Travelling over the passed boards’ history, we could divide two different “eras”: Matranga Era and Vetro Era.
In the first Era, period between 1998 and 2001, presidency was under the partner-maker Davide Matranga, whom the association owes so much, not only because he founded AEGEE-Palermo, but also because he have started propaganda and communication with public institutions, which developed important friendships and partnerships during the years. Between the arduous and satisfactory enterprises that AEGEE-Palermo has ended with success under Matranga manage, must be reminded the “Summer University 2000”, event where participated 120 AEGEE members came from all parts of Europe. Still now that event holds the record of participants in a Summer University.

In the second Era, since 2002 until 2005, there was a totally revolution about the structure of the board, while contact’s mechanism created by Matranga remained the same. With Massimiliano Vetro President, always helped by his irresistible predecessor, aims and activities of the association moved from the local to the international interest. To be reminded in this period the connection with the project “The Bridge - Connecting Mobility and Disability”; or more the first multilateral exchange organized with AEGEE-Delft (Netherlands), AEGEE-St. Petersburg (Russia) and AEGEE-Odessa (Ukraine).

Naturally behind the constant development of AEGEE-Palermo it cannot be thought that there are only the two names just introduced; the merit goes sure distributed to all the active members, who until today have worked free of charge and voluntarily for AEGEE-Palermo. The thing that it has been truly important for the development of this association was the spirit of group with which the situations have been always faced, the mutual interest in order to carry on a piece of Europe.
